ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT OCTOBER 21ST 7PM!!! AP tests have potentially saved KM 9-12 students $1.5M in tuition, based on last year's test-takers! Advanced Placement programming is facilitated by The College Board, a non-profit organization that helps high school students succeed academically by providing courses with college-level rigor and the opportunity to earn college credits. KM strongly encourages our students to challenge themselves by taking AP courses and currently offers 21 AP courses with more under consideration. Subject matter includes art, outreach, computer science, English, math, music, science, and social studies. This event is also a great opportunity for 7th and 8th grade families to learn about pre-AP opportunities and begin thinking about preparing students for high school. To learn more, visit our Advanced placement page at https://hs.kmsd.edu/o/kmhs/page/advanced-placement-program.

HS^2 STUDENT RECEIVED SECOND AWARD FROM LOWELL MILKEN CENTER FOR UNSUNG HEROES!!! Emma Manion, a High School of Health Sciences student, was honored in 2023 as well. This year, she was selected from an international field of submissions for the $3,000 First Place International Discovery Award. Emma's solo performance depicting the story of Wisconsin-born Ada Deer, a Native American leader and activist who had restored tribal sovereignty to the Menominee Nation, was truly inspired. Terry Kaldhusal, former KMMS social studies teacher and KM's National History Day organizer, helped guide Emma's work on this amazing achievement. “Emma’s project underscores the extraordinary impact of Ada Deer’s leadership and the importance of lifting up voices that are too often overlooked,” said LMC CEO Norm Conard. “Through the Discovery Award, students like Emma show how one person can inspire lasting change.” The award invites students worldwide in grades four through 12 to research and share the stories of Unsung Heroes through performances, documentaries, and websites. Submissions for the next competition season are due July 1, 2026 and you can learn more at lowellmilkencenter.org.
